I get this question all the time
"Do you have any locations you recommend?" And honestly, YES. I'm chock-full of 'em and adding more fun ones all the time! I love shooting in forests and nature parks, big cities and quaint little towns, near a picturesque lake, but there's something to be said for a beautiful natural-light studio. And I'm about to tell you why you should choose one for your next session.
01. Convenience
If you're in Dallas, where I'm based, there are so many beautiful natural-light studios sprinkled throughout the metroplex. These studios are just a hop and skip from most suburbanites and city-dwellers, and there's a good reason for it. Over the last 10 years or so these studio spaces have been popping up to serve photographers and clients and I am so grateful! A few I really love and recommend are The Lumen Room, Artist Uprising Studio, and Dear Meraki. These studios provide a safe spot from inclement weather as well, if your outdoor session becomes a little wetter than you'd like.
02. Timeless Style
While every studio has its own style, it can definitely be said that there's something classic about a clean backdrop. These spaces all have beautiful chairs, couches, (sometimes even beds!), and props that you can use or not use. If you're thinking you'll be stuck up against one plain white wall, there are a variety of backgrounds to choose from! The studios create a clean, beautiful atmosphere for pictures that stand the test of time. They aren't "fad forward" or trendy, but spaces that really showcase YOU. All the studios I love working in have beautiful natural diffused light, so you don't have to worry about that either. Often, studios swap out decor seasonally, too, so you can get a fresh look or a holiday-focused one!
03. A Controlled Environment
If you've got a 'free-spirited' child in your crew, you might be thinking "is there mud on the trail he's going to get into?," "will she wander off and I'll spend our session chasing her down?," "are they going to want to pose with their giant stick treasures in every photo?" Or maybe you're interested in a boudoir session, and privacy is a must for you. Whatever the situation, studios are just a perfect environment. They are clean, quiet, and small. Basically, they're controlled. And while I LOVE a good, wild session in nature, maybe you don't want to go for a long hike when you're 8 months pregnant. These simple, tasteful environments provide the perfect backdrop, everytime.
Studios sessions are a beautiful option that often gets overlooked, is misunderstood, or maybe you just never thought about it! But these sessions can be so much more than a hour at 'Penney's. And while I will never turn down a chance to be in the sunshine or walk down the trails with you, a studio might be a great option, too.
